Mondays are rough

On Mondays this term, I have two classes: 2 hours of rock climbing, and a 1-hour Volleyball class that usually lasts 2 because a bunch of us play after class.  Kim also has 2 classes: an 8 a.m. Animal Science class, followed by Rock Climbing with me, which ends at 11.  Then, she's done-zo.  Sounds nice, right?  Well, it is, except she always had a crap-ton of work due on Tuesday, and so her Mondays after climbing are hellacious.

I got back from Volleyball around 4:45 to find Kim sitting at the table, surrounded by papers and books and typing furiously on her computer.  I noticed a glass of wine next to her computer.

Kelly: "Kim, I'm so happy you've already busted into the Cabernet.  You go."
Kim: "Yeah, well, I was contemplating not pouring a glass, because it would make me feel like a Wine-o.  Then, I realized that I am a wine-o, and I was ok with it*"

*Wine-o in the sense that we love wine and drink it often.  Not that we're drunk off wine on a nightly basis.  Just wanted to clarify.

A Cookie Fetish

Kim is very open about her cookie addiction.  I appreciate it, because she provides a forum where I can also discuss my brownie addiction.

Tonight, we indulged in a few cookies from a local place, Taylor Street Ovens.  It was my first Taylor Street experience, and Kim was raving about it. (Rightfully so, the gingerbread (my favorite) was delicious!)

Kim:"I feel sickish, and think after 6 mini cookies, I need to stop.  I think my problem is that I actually love Taylor Street Oven cookies.  Have you ever had the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut cookies?"
Me: "Nope, just gingerbread and chocolate chip."
Kim: "They are...well, I could pop those cookies like House pops Vicadin."

Cooking in a bathrobe.

Tonight, Kim and I threw together a meal, but after hours of PAC classes and working out, I had to take a shower first.

Kim: "You're cooking in a robe and drinking wine, someday some man is going to fall madly in love with you."
Kelly: "Haha, I would hope so...why?!"
Kim: "You enjoy drinking, you enjoy cooking, you have great taste in music, and you parade around in a bathrobe.  These are very redeeming qualities"

Later...

Kim: "Did you really just eat chicken plain for dinner?"
Kelly: "Yeah, and it was delicious."
Kim: "You are such a carnivore.  That's ok, all I've eaten today was Chocolate."

Valentines Day

Feb. 13th:
Stephen: "I HAVE A VALENTINE'S DAY DATE TOMORROW!"
Kim: "Well, that's great."
Stephen:  "It's my car...."
Kim:  "That will make for quite the awkward dinner conversation..."

Feb. 14th:
Kim: "Good god, I'm going to eat all of these chocolates."
Kelly: "Me too, they're going to kill me..."
Kim: "You know what happens tomorrow, right?"
Kelly: "They all go on SALE."
Kim: "You know what we're doing first thing tomorrow, right?"
Kelly: "BUYING ALL THE CHOCOLATES!?!?!?"
Kim: "Hell yes."

The Vegan Challenge

Kim and I decided on a whim that we were going to try veganism for one week, just to see a. if we can do it and b. how it makes us feel.

Day 1:
I introduced Kim to "The Oatmeal" and read her the comic on use of the word "literally" (found at http://theoatmeal.com/comics/literally).  After reading this, we are trying to decide what to eat for lunch, our first real vegan-ish meal requirement, when Kim bursts out "WE ARE LITERALLY GOING TO STARVE TO DEATH ON THIS DIET!"

Superbowl Sunday

"Kelly, I'm so happy you're a beer snob...It makes my life easier, and so much better"

Today is Superbowl day, and also the end of Week 5 of a 10 week term.  Homework will be done during the game, unfortunately - sometimes college sucks.

Kim and I decided, however, that a Superbowl Spread of food is necessary, and my simple football food of choice is Tostito's Salsa con Queso, preferably heated in that wonderful invention called the microwave.  Kim's response to this request: "Gross.  No.  You should never eat cheese that comes out of a jar."

In the grocery store, the split was this: Kelly gets beer, Kim gets food.  As we're heading to the checkout line, I see my wonderful canned cheese goodness, and grab a jar.  Kim's response: "Don't worry, Kel.  I already got you some."

My Crazy Best Friend

I have the craziest best friend, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Me: Kelly.  21 (as of now).  Accounting student at Oregon State, option in Int'l Business.
Her: Kim.  22 (as of now).  Marketing and Art History double major at Oregon State, option in Int'l Business, minor in Spanish.

Kim and I met toward the end of our freshman years at Oregon State University.  We initially bonded in Seattle at SIFE regional competition over the fact that while the entire rest of our SIFE team, at 11:30 p.m., wanted to spend their evening sitting in the lobby getting free wi-fi and Facebook chatting with each other from literally 5 feet away, we wanted to spend our evening sleeping in our hotel room.  It was all downhill from there.

We were both hired on as Resident Assistants in the same building for our Sophomore year, and that is where the mayhem really began.  We bonded so quickly that most other RAs assumed that we had been friends since high school.  Aside from wrangling residents, being stealthy through the hallways, causing ridiculous problems, and entertaining the entire building and RA staff, we became what we term "Besties" (thank you to our friend Scott who told us a hilarious story coining that term).  I have never looked back.

Sometimes people tell me that Kim and I are hilarious together because we are so similar.  Aside from our immense appreciation for sarcasm and snide comments (on the side, of course; our public filters are too in-tune for us to let those slip), Kim and I are almost polar opposites in the way we process things and approach life.  I, in a very accountant-esque manner, always have a plan.  Kim is one of those people I envy who can just do something on the fly because she feels like it, and it always turns out well.

Kim is a person I can talk to for hours with no intended subject and never be bored.  We can ride in a car and not have it be awkward, even when we're both silent and just listening to music.  I can't imagine my life without her.

If I had a dime for every time Kim has made me laugh in the 3 years I have known her, I would not only be able to retire early, I probably wouldn't even have to finish my college education (aside from the fact that I want to, because I'm all accountant and am excited about my career).  It finally occurred to me that I want to harness and document some of that madness, some of those crazy times, and some of those off-the-wall comments that nobody sees coming, but cause me to burst out laughing, sometimes with a snort added, and everyone around us to turn and stare.

So to Kim: Bestie not only means you're one of my best friends, but you're just the best in general.  I love you like a sister I never had, and thank god you aren't my sister because we probably wouldn't have gotten along as well if you were....I digress.  Anyway.  I'm stoked I met you at Shari's on Pi Day, even though I had no idea who you were and what the hell you were doing there with the rest of the AEP group (although I'm sure you thought the same about me).  Couldn't imagine life without you in it, although if I had to, I would venture a guess and say it would be MUCH more depressing.  Hugs and Kisses!  (As you would say)  Loves!  (As I would say)
